If you didn’t have a chance to catch up with me during the busy March festival season, don’t worry! I’m not heading back to the lab or the writing desk just yet. April is shaping up to be another wonderful month of community events, and I’ll be out and about with my books—and my reptiles—at several locations across Southern Arizona.
Indoor Elegance at the Absolutely Arts Festival
On April 4, I will be returning to the Absolutely Arts Festival in Catalina. I particularly enjoy this event because I get to set up indoors, surrounded by gorgeous local artwork. As much as I love the Sonoran Desert, I certainly appreciate being tucked away from the wind and the unpredictable spring weather elements (and the “yellow rain” of the Acacia trees!).
After you’ve finished admiring and shopping with the talented vendors outside, be sure to head indoors. There is so much more to see and buy, including my latest titles. I’ll be there all day, happy to sign and personalize books for your favorite young readers.
Finding My Rhythm at the Tucson Folk Festival
From April 10–12, I’m venturing into new territory! I’ll be exhibiting at the 41st Annual Tucson Folk Festival. This is known as Arizona’s largest free, family-friendly music festival, featuring over 150 performances across multiple stages.
As a singer myself, I have a deep love for music. While this event focuses on Americana, folk, blues, and Latin melodies, I think my books will fit right in. After all, my rhyming picture books are all about the rhythm and “music” of words!
You can find me in the Elise Grecco Marketplace along Church Avenue, near Jacome Plaza. I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday (and possibly Friday too!). I’ll be selling books until 7:00 PM, which is a bit later than my usual festival hours. Since that’s close to sundown, I’ll be sure to have my lanterns handy so you can still see the colorful scales on the book covers!
I’m looking forward to the “ambient music” promised by the organizers—it sounds like the perfect backdrop for chatting with fellow reptile enthusiasts and book lovers.
Back to School
In addition to these public festivals, I’ll be visiting several schools this month. These are some of my favorite days because I get to bring my live reptiles along to meet the students. There’s nothing quite like seeing a child’s face light up when they learn the science behind our local desert dwellers.
